I just researched this. The bill raising the speed limits from 55 mph was not passed til Nov. 29, 1995 and then it was way up in 1996 before it was changed.
That means that driving to Dana Point was under a much lower speed limit. That doesn't mean that Dom drove much slower but I do believe there might have been a limit to how FAST she did drive that night. We are talking adding 5-10 mph over 55 mph not 65 mph. That "could" cut down considerably on that time of an hour for the trip--I mean Add to the time. You would cut down on how Far you could go in a hour if you clipped 5-10 mph off your speed.
Then also, there was a route given of being 75 miles to their house rather than 69. That is a difference of 6 More miles.
