Rose, Sorry, must have missed the question.
There is a road (I believe the one you took) that goes across to Dana Point. I don't recall the name of it. That must be what you can do now.
If you mean the Dana Point exit in 94, I mean that the map quests had the driver continue on down the 405 to the part that curves out to the beach which it does below Dana Point. That is the place where they had the exit to Dana Point in which you had to get off the 405 and drive NORTH back to Dana Point a ways. Not a long ways but it was South of Dana Point.
I studied those map routes on the Internet closely and I also studied old Highway maps at book stores and libraries. Until a few years ago, they never showed that you could get off prior to the below Dana Point exit and drive across and arrive in Dana Point just a bit south of the Brown's house on Hwy One. It never showed up. No roads were on the maps and certainly no routes were shown on the map quests.
Now it is shown as the preferred route but back then the 405 on down where it makes a wide semi-circle --like a backwards C and goes in towards the coast is the way they routed people. And at the point where the 405 and the Hwy One come close together is where they had people get off to go back into Dana Point.
What makes me believe that there are vast changes is that the map quests used to list the trip as being approx 75 miles or so. So maps had it at 78 which could have just been a miscalculation. But now they have the trip less than that. I don't recall exactly but I seem to recall that you and Dick had it under 70 miles. Something about the changes cut off 5 or more miles to the trip.
