Rovaan,

I know that he crossed over to the west side of Bundy at GORHAM - not at Dorothy. In order to cross to the west side he had to have come from the east side. That's what I said in the first place. But that isn't were he saw the couple. It couldn't have been.

Looking at the map of June 12 with the route and the time zones you can see that Schwab was talking about the curve where Bundy and Gorham come together. If you are on the west side to being with you do not have to cross the street; you just keep walking around the curve. If you are on the east side, you have no choice but to cross Bundy.

You are just now seeing the June 12 map but I have been working on both of them for eight to ten hours a day since April 23rd. I cannot tell you how many times I went over Schwab's testimony to resolve apparent conflicts. Ultimately I found that I could resolve every one of them by looking at the time zones, the sequence of events, the consistency with which he had difficulty with four point directions and the number of times he had to be corrected. All of those corrections have to do with the times he said west side when he meant east side.

You can tell what he meant by what he said before and after and by what was and was not physically possible to do. Yes, Schwab did say explicitly that he encountered the couple for the second time when he "crossed back" to the west side of Bundy. But at another point in his testimony he explicitly corrected himself.

…AT THAT POINT I CROSSED THE STREET. I CROSSED FROM THE EAST SIDE OF BUNDY -- I'M SORRY -- FROM THE WEST SIDE OF BUNDY TO THE EAST SIDE OF BUNDY to see basically what the dog would do.

Q: All right. YOU SAY YOU WENT FROM THE WEST SIDE TO THE EAST SIDE OF BUNDY?

A: YES…

What pint is he talking about? The point where he examined the dog at Bundy and Dorothy:

Q: HOW MUCH TIME WOULD YOU ESTIMATE THAT YOU SPENT STANDING ON THE CORNER WITH THE DOG AT BUNDY AND DOROTHY?

A: APPROXIMATELY A MINUTE OR TWO.

Q: AND THEN YOU CROSSED OVER BUNDY TO GO TO THE EAST SIDE OF BUNDY; IS THAT CORRECT?

A: THAT'S CORRECT.

Marcia doesn't help things by referring to Schwab going toward Montana (where he lived) when the dog began barking at the pathways, because she beings with Schwab crossing Bundy and leaves out his meeting with the couple. But look at what else happens here:

Q: AFTER CROSSING OVER BUNDY, YOU THEN BEGAN WALKING NORTHBOUND ON BUNDY TOWARD MONTANA YOU'VE SAID.

A: YES.

Q: AND AS YOU WERE WALKING NORTHBOUND ON BUNDY, THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE CRIME SCENE, WOULDN'T IT?

A: THAT'S CORRECT.

Q: AND AS YOU WERE WALKING NORTHBOUND ON BUNDY, YOU SAY THAT THE DOG HAPPENED TO STOP PERIODICALLY AND START TO BARK.

"Across the street from the crime scene tells you that this happened in the 800 block. Schwab met the couple for the first time on Gorham between Gretna Green and Amherst (look at the time zones). He met them again right after he crossed over Bundy at Dorothy (look at the sequence of events). He met the couple the second time before he crossed Bundy at Gorham, Before he flagged down the cop and before the dog started barking at the pathways "across from the murder scene.". He met them on the east side of Bundy at Dorothy. --Jasper
