Rovaan,
I respect your carefully considered opinions and observations and look forward to reading them. This, however, wasn't one of them. You should have waited until I could get the correct map in place to post it. When you've known me a little longer no one will have to tell you that I don't lie. I don't cheat. I don't cherry-pick and I love to be corrected when I'm wrong. I hate to stay wrong. That's why I created this discussion group.
I didn't ignore anything Schwab said. The passage you posted from his testimony is in one of the hot spots, which is now visible and functional. It wasn't when you looked at it.
I had the same impression you did about Schwab being on the west side of Bundy when he met the couple again precisely because he said it twice - once at each end of the block. But I kept getting confused by what he said about the side of the block he was on at each end and what he said in between. Those are the passages I cut and pasted for you. I hoped that you would study them for awhile and see the pattern. I hoped you would notice that when he could avoid using four point directions he did. I hoped you would see that this is not a contest with me, but a systematic process of discovery.
The operative word is "see."
This is something that anyone can do with Schwab's testimony. Don't be afraid of getting TOO basic. That's a common mistake that can jet you off into oblivion. You can't get too basic with something like this. Indeed, if it isn't childishly simple, it's wrong…
Draw a street (two parallel lines running north and south. Between the lines write, "Bundy." At the base of those lines draw two parallel lines running east and west. Between those lines write, "Dorothy." Neatness doesn't count. Put North at the top of Bundy. Put South on the bottom of Bundy. On the left of Bundy put West. On the right of Bundy put east. Now take a coin or some other token and put it on the upper left line of Dorothy. Now, go to the transcripts and move the coin wherever Schwab says to move it.
When you get to the corner of Dorothy and Bundy you will see that you're stuck. You will see that it is physically impossible to go where he says he went because that's where he is. Keep reading until you can move the token again. Stop when he stops. Check the direction and move again until you reach a point in the transcripts where you get stuck again. At some point you will know the difference between what he said and what he meant. You will know that he meant to say, east side all the way to Gorham, because there is no logical alternative. --Jasper
