I checked with Dick on what would be the fastest way for Karpf to get home from the airport. He indicated that Karpf could take the 405 freeway, exit at Wilshire, go west on Wilshire to Bundy, turn right, go north on Bundy about five blocks to Dorothy, turn left and go west a half block to the alley; turn right.
I also checked with Map Quest, and their route was different from Wilshire with a route to take San Vicente down to Montana I think, then South on Bundy to Dorothy, turn right to alley.
Dorothy does not go through to San Vicente.
The second route takes you by Nicole's and does not seem likely. The first route takes you north on Bundy turning left on Dorothy just before Nicole's.
It would seem that if Karpf arrived at the corner of Bundy and Dorothy, he would have to arrive prior to the dog barking in the middle of the street on Bundy. Otherwise, it would seem he would see the dog in the street as his headlights would be shining in that direction as he approached.
If he arrived after 11:00, Schwab would have already taken the dog and he would not have seen it in the street when he came out for the mail. And he could not have turned that corner when Heidstra was standing at the tree or Heidstra would have seen him.
We can't be sure exactly which way he came because he was never asked. It sure would have helped if they would have asked how he got on Dorothy Street.
