Everyone assumes the dog started barking or wailing from the front of the condo. The dog could have checked out the bodies, gotten blood on its paws and left through the gate, heading south. Dog goes around the corner to the alley behind Nicole's where he starts to wail. He is heard by Fenjves, Storfer and Stein, but not by Pilnak, Tistaert or the old man next door to Tistaert (in different locations). He stops barking, wanders around in the back alley. Aaronson and Mandel go by, no barking, no dog. Dog comes back around through to the front shortly after Aaronson and Mandel goes by (maybe he heard them). In front he starts barking again in the street.
Hence you have a 45 minute time frame where the dog barked but appeared to have stopped between 10:21 and 10:33. Maybe that is when he got the mud on him, laying to rest in the alley.
Having been to LAX, it is not unresonable that Karpf could have gotten to his car in 15 minutes. I think he would have been aware of the time he arrived since the pilot gives it to you when you land. Karpf indicated he could have been home 10 minutes either side of 10:45. Note Karpf was never asked if he made any sounds when the dog came rushing at him. He did say that he did not hear any voices.
I don't think you can rule out that Karpf was home at 10:35 by the testimony of his wife who was sleeping. She may have heard the dog around 10:15 and then again when she awoke when Karpf came home. Something about this couple makes me think they were fighting.
