Jean,

I think most people would have gotten that wrong. Most people didn't even know there was such a thing as an International Harvester Scout SUV.

The answer to why if was ever made an issue by anyone might be in Fuhrman's book Murder in Brentwood where he describes the place he said he found the stick. It was south of Dorothy. Fuhrman wasn't more specific than that but he said that a witness reported seeing a vehicle similar to O.J.'s Bronco "within in the time frame." He wasn't more specific about that, either. What astounded me was his statement that the witness reported that the vehicle was blue (did he really say blue or did he say green?) and that it might have just appeared to be blue in the light.

It seemed to me that he would never have said anything about that report if it wasn't on record somewhere. He had no control over whether or not someone would write abut it but he could put his spin on it in case someone did. Everyone in the media (except Kathleen Sullivan) shied away from saying anything about Fuhrman's Bronco, but by the way Kathleen Sullivan talked about it and the way her guests reacted, it seemed to be common knowledge in the media.

My best guess is the mention of the Scout was to take the steam out of any attempts to associate Fuhrman's scout to the murders. To most people as Scout is a Scout - whatever a Scout is. I doubt that one person in a hundred knows the difference between a '73 Scout and an '80 Scout. By drawing attention to the '73 anyone who looked at it would know that there was now way it could be mistaken for a Bronco. One look at the '73 and no more questions about the Scout, any Scout. --Jasper
