Don't think this happened but Nicole was perfectly capable of killing Ron or having him killed. Then have the killer turn on her. Or his friend came up and she attacted them and they killer her.
The most likely person to steal the glasses is Nicole herself for some psycotic sceme she had. She could have drugged the kids herself.
She could have been planning a wild eveining with Ron and he rejected her and she killed him and the person that killed her took the knife.
