Kari, I don't know what they were doing. It may not be the door that is the mystery at all, however, something about that front area was deliberately obscured and misrepresented in this trial--repeatedly.
We have the disappearing front porch light that at various times we are told is on and then not on. At one point light shines down on Nicole and other times he does not.
We are given the impression of the light being a front porch light and then discover the front porch is 40 ft back.
It goes back and forth throughout the trial and then back again in the civil trial.
VAnnatter himself is responsible a great deal for it with his remark that he stood at the front door and looked down on Nicole. An impossibility.
ONe diagram used (you can find it on Wagner's site) had a door alright but it was in a location where neither door is. It was on the front left of the porch aimed in toward the LR.
Fuhrman leaves off either door in his diagram and has the footprints go only as far as the three steps up to the porch--not the big todo they did about the shoeprints "going past the front" door.
I don't think it is a Red Herring. I think something is being hidden. I am not quite sure what it is but it is something to do with the front of that condo.
