Charlie,
Don't look now but you and I and everyone else is vulnerable to a combined federal, state and local police investigation. You don't have to do anything illegal. You don't even have to know anyone who has done anything illegal. If the police can make a reasonable-sounding case that you have done something illegal or that you have information pertinent to their investigation of illegal activities you will be checked out, if not intimidated. For all you know anyone you have corresponded with is on a list of terrorists, drug thugs or some damn thing that can get you branded as one of them simply by virtue of the number of times your name comes up in THEIR correspondence.
Yes, I know that some pretty slimy things very likely went on under the cover of a legitimate business at all of the Mezzaluna restaurants. You can't carry on the kinds of activities alleged to have been carried on there with a sign out front that says "Illegal drugs, prostitution, money laundering - one-stop shopping!" For the front to work effectively, most of the people employed there have to be kept in the dark. These are real people. I am extremely uncomfortable with associating their names with illegal activities without pretty strong evidence that they engaged in them.
It took me over a year to mention Fuhrman's name in an e-mail after I began to look at him as a suspect and six months after that to put my suspicions online with the Court TV Discussion Group. I don't see any confluence of evidence approaching those levels with respect to DeBello, Crawford, Gavin or Tanner. I do know that a lot of people get nervous around men with Italian names whenever allegations of mob connections are made. If you want someone to take the heat for working with the mob, hire an Italian.
Keith Zlomsowitch is a different kettle of fish.
If the place was dirty, he had to have dirt on his hands. As for the kid feeling uncomfortable, lets' fact it, how long to you have to be there to know that two people in a Colorado Mezzaluna vanished and two people in the one where you are working were murdered? How long does it take for that to start working on anybody's nerves? I'm a pretty tough guy. I've been in some harry situations and I usually go in with confidence that I will be able to take care of myself. But take a job at Mezzaluna after Nigg's murder? Not on a bet! --Jasper
