You're right.
Don't know how I could have screwed that up, but I did. Must have confused his rout somewhere along the way with Ron Goldman's and never separated them in my mind - or my drawing. The drawing of Heidstra's rout that I have in the book is wrong.
Now I see that Heidstra may not have seen the lookout and why he could be so sure of the little black dog's identity even though he couldn't see him. It also explains why it was so hard for Heidstra to hear what the men were saying. Both dogs were between him and the men in Nicole's front yard and one of them was just about yapping in his ear. The correct path makes a lot of things clearer. I'll have to fix that in the next edition of the book.
