Jolana, Both things (the shootings and the car accident) are in the LA Times archieves. You have to use Piper Tech as a key word as that is the official name of the lab.
The guy who shot and killed the employees was given life for the crimes even though it was multiple killings.
I have learned (LA Times archieves again) that the guy who shot and killed the baliff was finally found (after a long while and a show on Unsolved Mysteries about it) and he too got life--I think.
The car accident I didn't learn of until a couple of years ago through other people. I don't recall ever hearing about it at the time. I wasn't even sure it was true til I found it (after long long time) in the archieves.
It was described as a car going off the upper lanes of the highway onto the highway below and landing directly on top of the car with the 5 Piper Tech employees in it. I could only read the summary so I have no idea who the driver was or if he/she was injured or killed.
All of these things may be totally unrelated and totally innocent happenings but it is so strange at least.
The only person who could pull off the car accident would be a stunt driver (withou getting killed). But the reporter's accident was much like the ones happening in CA at that time that caused a big insurance investigation of deliberate accidents--where cars were pushed into the line of traffic. The investigation turned up a gang of these people doing the insurance fraud who were Asians and were making millions of dollars on the scheme.
