The question is why where they not picked up by who dropped them. Now if they had finger printed them they may well have found out they were just dropped by kids and have no significance. But now we will never know. Nicole may have dropped them but just didn't pick them up with getting the kids and ice cream in the house. But they could have come out of the murderers pocket. I would imagine that the photographer also just takes some pictures without being told take this. They may have been taken when he was just doing background shots.
Then they could have been thought significant, but had the wrong finger prints on them.
We will never know.
