I have read several crime novels recently that sourced by people from police departments, coroner's office, FBI and others.
I have found collaboration to what Jasper says about the smell of human blood.
They talk about being able to smell it from some distance away (especially if there is a lot).
I recall that Riske says that as he walks up to the walkway, he doesn't see a body. He turns and looks at the body finders and they motion towards the gate.
It struck me that he was close enough to be able to smell it. So had been the body finders. And perhaps the dog finder prior to that since he passed the condo on the opposite side of the street where ocean breezes would blow--if there were any that night.
Not one person mentions the smell of the blood. Not even the folks who came to clean up the next day.
In the books, they also mention how the cops have to take off their clothes in the garage before entering their homes at night due the smell clinging to their clothes.
Do you recall that anybody ever mentioned the smell?
This would be important--as Jasper has mentioned before --when the blind daters walk by at 10:30.
