Jean, I wondered too about a cemetary at the VA nearby. (near where Ron lived). There is also the cemetary where Ron is buried and the one where Nic is buried.
In the book, the answer to the "secret" of the murders was in the cemetary.
I also noticed that the real killer shared the same initials with the 3rd suspect (the husband). And this threw them off and why they couldn't find the answer. But they wouldn't have missed it if they hadn't been so intent on this one couple as being the guilty parties.
