The map on page 30 of Killing Time is the accurate one.
You can trace Schwab's route down Montana to Gretna Green Way, down to Gorham, over to Amhurst, down Amhurst to Dorothy and back to Dorothy and Bundy and up Bundy to Montana and over to past Westgate where he and Boztepe says that they live.
I think part of the confusion as well as when you think of someone walking the dog around the blocks near their house, you think just that. You don't think about them walking over a 1/2 mile and then walking around somebody's else's block.
You can also see clearly from this map that someone driving out of Nic's alley only has to turn right and go a short way to Gretna Green Way and head north on a street that Heidstra says has only 2 stop signs and no stop lights---that is if they are interested in heading north in a hurry.
In fact, there are several ways if you wanted to avoid your vehicle being seen on the same street as Nicole in or around the time of the murder.
You can also see for Ron to be pointed towards the Mezz instead of away, he had to do a similiar move to what Schwab did and go past Bundy and come down Gretna Green Way and turn back towards Bundy on Dorothy.
Also learned that Louis Karpf--the next door neightbor says he saw a white man (a tall man) and a dog walking across the street up Bundy when he went out for his mail. Since at this point on the street (Schwab would reach Karpf's before Nic's) Schwab has already seen the dog at the corner of Bundy and Dorothy. He said the dog started to follow him and bark at the walkways ahead of him and then as he passed the dog would catch up. This doesn't sound like Schwab's description.
This important part of this to me is that I don't recall Schwab being asked that much about what he saw or didn't see on the street --esp. in the area of Nic's alley or where Ron's car is parked.
In this alleged 10 minute time between finding the dog and getting home at approx 11:05 (civil trial) he had greeted the dog, inspected it and its collar, walked up the street with it in and around him, stopped and talked to the cops TWICE and evidently given the cop his name, address and phone number because he says he never contacted the animal shelter--they contacted him to tell him it was too late to pick up the dog....that's a lot in 10 minutes--and he is close to a 1/2 mile away (if not more) when he first see the dog.
I did an experiment last night. I walked 1000 feet (past 10 houses of 50 ft lots)-fast and it took me 4 minutes. I never heard Schwab say he was in a "hurry" did you? charlie
