I don't know about you but when reading Evidence Dismissed I hear Vannatter's voice (not Lange) speaking.
Also, when he described the bodies in the scene he said he saw things or that Lange saw things or that Riske saw things before the bodies were touched that he could not see. Prior to turning over her body, the claim is that the rings on both fingers, the earrings on both ears (one loose), her watch (a Swiss Army watch) etc could all be seen and then describes how they turned over the body.
He describes the jewelry in detail as to style and kind. Yet when it comes to describing Ron and what he wore, etc. very little is said. He does well to say shoes, jeans and a shirt. There is no mention of a watch, rings, or any other thing like that--like the ankh necklace that Ron allegedly never took off. Also telling is that he does not mention in any way (except that it is listed in the evidence list further back in the book) that the ring was found under Ron. Even in the turning over or moving Ron (highly described) it is not mentioned as Hey look what we found.
Also about the beeper. In one place it said that the phone number was there and Lange wrote it down and had Someone else call and find out who it was and they learned it was Stuart Tanner of the Mezz. Nothing else is said. Later, in a footnote, they claim there was a message from Tanner asking why he didn't meet up with him the night before. They imply this was a message on the beeper. EArlier, it said that only a phone number came up on the beeper. Not knowing how these things work or did work in 94, I'll have to leave that to someone else.
There are claims in this book that Riske could tell by looking at Nicole that her neck was nearly severed. That Riske could tell and they could tell by looking but not touching Ron that his neck had been cut.
I notice too that the writer (and V & L) rely heavily on telling the reader what the RULES ARE with the LAPD and what the POLICIES are (don't touch the bodies, don't touch the evidence, etc) without EVER saying the cops followed the rules.
Whenever it is called for, the "book" is quoted without ever saying they actually followed it.
Just as they rely heavily on repeatedly and dramatically calling themselves 27 year experienced detectives.
