That sad truth of the matter is that anyone with access to the assistant prosecutors' offices could have taken the forms, filled them out in any way he or she desired and put them where they would do the most good. It didn't take anyone with high-level connections. The only person the thief had to know was the secretary - if there was a thief.
Hodgman, Clark, Lewis and Darden all lied in court and did everything they could to throw confusion into the case. I would not rule out the possibility that someone in the office cooked up phony documents or that Hodgman simply lied about them. It could also be a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand was doing or Hodgman tidying up someone else's mistake.
However, if we assume that someone outside of the prosecutor's office did steal the forms and forge the documents, anyone from the janitor to anyone in the case (like Mark Fuhrman) with a special interest in sowing confusion could have pulled it off. Security of key documents and key evidence wherever it was held by the prosecution was a joke. Someone stole one of the lenses for Juditha Brown's glasses. A reporter left a coffee cup stain on the roof of the Bronco before it was hauled away from Rockingham. The only security for the blood evidence brought to Park Center was a key. When the roll-up doors at Piper Tech were opened anyone could have walked in. And the testimony of Colin Yamauchi made it plain that individual lab technicians routinely let in detectives they knew to "discuss" evidence. I can't see what makes the subpoena forms more secure than anything else. --Jasper
