Jean,
I wouldn't even call it a coincidence, much less odd. Once O.J. gave permission for Kato to use the Jacuzzi on the condition that he turn on the water when he was finished, everything else followed a logical progression. If you accept Kato's word that he felt bad about screwing up and leaving the water on, you can see where he would be happy that O.J. was not upset with him. You can see why he would feel good that O.J. would talk to him about the recital and come to HIM for money. You can see where he might then think it was O.K. to ask if he could join O.J. when he went to McDonalds.
When he heard the thumps he went to check them out - but not too closely. He was still think "earthquake." He asked Rachel if she felt one. When he came from the path the first time he asked Allan Park if he had experience an earthquake. When he saw O.J. he asked him the same thing. It was more movement than noise and he gave no indication of really believing that someone was back there until Rachael, Park and O.J. all told him that they had felt noting like an earthquake. Only after Fuhrman interviewed him and found the glove did his two trips back there until he saw O.J. have any meaning.
It's only when you assume that he was lying about the thumps that anything he did seem odd. -
Last week something frightening and dramatic happened in my family that should have been a big story on the local news. I hadn' t had a haircut in two months or worn a decent pair of slacks all year. The day before the news event I got a haircut. The day of the event I was wearing a pair of dress slacks and my best shirt. I left work early that day and because I didn't I got the call about the event as soon as I walked in the door. Does that seem suspicious to you? It would if you though I was lying about not knowing that I was going to be on TV --Jasper
