Bresnahan on O. J. Simpson PART 1 March 15, 2001
Well David Bresnahan wins the award for having a man on his program who must be one of the most incoherent guests of all time: Mario Netrini! (I'm not sure of the spelling)
Just what the hell are we supposed to make of this guy's "investigation" anyway? He couldn't even get the date of the murders correct when he first began to speak describing the murders as happening on June 11, 1994. He changed it to June 12 later though.
More importantly however, was his first statement that he believed Simpson was innocent. Incredibly, he then lays out a scenario where Simpson put "the bag" into a "secret" compartment in the limo and it is later taken out by someone who then takes it to Rocky Bateman, Simpson's most frequent limo driver, who then disposes of it. Bresnahan then asks if Rocky does this at the behest of Simpson. Mario: "You know David, the way I have it investigated, he did it on the premise of the person who sneaked into the limosine, the night--I guess it would be the morning of June 13, and took it to Rocky--still in the dark hours of the morning, and then Rocky of course unloaded the bag; I would have to say it's one of two things: Either Rocky just did it on the premise of this unknown person who went into the limo and got [the bag] out of the limo, or this was planned!!--and I haven't been able to put my finger on that exactly".--??? Would someone please tell me how such a thing could take place if it were NOT planned?? Who the hell would know about it?? Mario then alleges that "Simpson put the bag into the compartment in the limo himself---and Bill Pavelic tipped me off to this."
Opps!! What's that? BILL PAVELIC?? Mario refers to him as "One of Simpson's main investigators" which of course he hasn't been for a long time--quite the contrary! And then Mario says emphatically: "I put my nose where it was not supposed to be in this case!" Yeah, up Pavelic's ass evidently. So we are supposed to believe that the bag with "evidence" in it is placed in the compartment in the limo and is then driven to Torrance by Park, after which the bag is removed by some mysterious person and then given to Rocky who disposes of it!-----Whew! And Mario then says "that's 100% guaranteed!" Oh really? How?
Mario then claims that there is a "hit" contract out on him, and that he has filed "papers", and that he is saving most of what he has for the witness stand so that he can get "legal justice for himself", and then says "I am going to break this case!" Bresnahan then asks "how are you going to institute a court case, are you going to file civil charges?" Mario: "No, I have filed "citizen's arrest papers--I went into Parker center to have 9 people arrested, (Marsha Clark, Det. Ron Ito, Gloria Allred, Det. Tom Lang, Investigator Solvino of the DA's office, Stephanie Medina, Off. J. H. Hart, Sgt. Guttierez, and Bob Parsons), and I went in there to have them arrested---citizen's arrest!" And DB claims to have copies of these documents. And guess what! The police refused to arrest these people. Gee, I wonder why? I'll bet this guy could get all the guilty parties in this case protected.
Now Mario says "I know that they were going to frame O. J. Simpson using Rocky Bateman. [Det.] Ito had told me a few things on what they were going to do." DB: "In what way?" Mario: That's another thing I'm going to save for the witness stand." Oh sure! Det. Ito tells this guy how the police were going to frame Simpson. DB: "Any reason why?" Mario: "My honest opinion is that they just thought he was plain-out guilty. And they got in a dirty war with Simpson's Dream Team. And I just want to say that I have no love lost for O. J. Simpson----I have no love lost for his Dream Team either! And I've got 2 scenarios: one that he's guilty, and one that he's not guilty." Ah Ha! (When are you going to get to the one where he's not guilty?) "And I will tell you this: why they were going to use Rocky and the limo company to blatantly frame him---I don't know the answer to that. But when [Det.] Ito goes on the witness stand along with Marsha Clark, you're gonna find out because they're going!" I thought you said the police refused to arrest them?!! And then he says: "That's the only way---well, they're gonna take the fifth---they're gonna have to take the fifth!" So how will we find out then? DB then asks if any of the people they have discussed are involved in any of a variety of crimes including Gambling. Mario claims some knowledge of drugs but nothing else.
Now all of this starts with a conversation between Nicole and "some girl friends" about a plan to "steal Simpson's money", a conversation which takes place within earshot of Simpson's favorite driver!? And how in the hell were they (she) going to accomplish that?? The pre-nuptial agreement was whatever it was my friends. So, short of a court case, just how was she going to do it? And so is that anyone's idea of a real threat? Now Rocky asks Mario to follow Nicole around to see who she was associating with to determine what friends were in this group of girl-friends. (He had told Simpson about this and Simpson told him to find someone to follow Nicole because "something had to be done about it". But of course Mario has much to much integrity so he refuses. And Mr. Bresnahan in his wisdom asks Mario if Nicole and Co. had said "why they wanted to steal Simpson's money", instead of the more informative question of HOW. But more about "why" later. Mario then says he spoke to the "Dream Team" but they "chased me away---of course I didn't give them my name!" So how would they have gone about trying to prove this story? Ridiculous!
By the way, this scenario only makes sense if Simpson is the murderer as the bag would have to be taken from the limo and "dumped" because it was significant in some way (with the clothes and knife in it, or some sort of Sports Gambling evidence??! which I will get to later). And look at the pre-planning on the part of Simpson and Bateman that would have had to have taken place! There is no innocent explanation for taking the bag because who would know about it if it's hidden in the compartment?
So the bottom line as far as Mario Netrini is concerned is that he has done something the Prosecution could never do---provide a motive---Nicole and some girl-friends were going to steal Simpson's money!?
And suggest that Simpson himself was getting rid of some kind of evidence in the bag. Just what, I will discuss in PART 2.
