It is done more often than you might know of but not usually in murder cases. It is done in autobile accidents (no fault and no charges) for example for the family to gain money for medical expenses or for a death.
It is done more often in negligence allegation cases.
But, of course, now after OJS it is much more popular thing to do for other kinds of cases. c
