Ron Shipp’s expertise in forgery came out in the criminal trial. Forgery was the department he was working in when he retired in 1989. That piece of information blew past everyone because they assumed he was a nobody looking for attention. I noticed it because I considered him as a suspect at one time and Shipp or someone close to him with that kind of knowledge and a direct pipeline to Nicole and O.J. was crucial to my thesis. I had ruled out Fuhrman as a suspect at the time because I thought he had an alibi. It also seemed stupid for him to have planted the glove in a way that it was so easy to spot as a plant — so stupid that I ruled him out as a possible murder suspect and the guy who planted glove very early in the game.
For a while I was thinking that I had missed something about O.J. that really did prove his guilt. But in the process of trying to see where Faye Resnick, Kato Kaelin, Robert Kardashian and Phil Vannatter fit into the evidence against O.J., I kept coming back to the domestic violence evidence. Sometime in 1985, around the time Shipp became buddies with Mark Fuhrman (I’d love to know whether it was before or after) Shipp became an expert in domestic violence. He learned so much that he taught a course on it at the police academy. That is, he knew what the experts looked for. I can only infer from his last job in forgery that he knew enough to know what the experts looked for there, too. I’d love to know more. --Jasper
