The biggest frustrations I've had in working with the evidence in the O.J. case have involved the evidence I never got to see.
In my book, I have Robert Heidstra in the wrong place at the time he heard "the two men arguing and the second dog begin to bark. There is no way I could have made that mistake if I had been able to see the chart he was pointing to as he testified. That particular error didn't prove to be fatal to my reconstruction of what happened. It works against the idea that the second dog started barking because he saw a man going into Nicole's front gate (it now looks like the little black dog was reacting to Heidstra and his dogs). But it certainly explains why Heidstra didn't see a car parked on Bundy. Ideally, an observer would have positioned himself where he could see the farthest in all directions closest to the ambush site with a good set of binoculars and be least vulnerable to being observed. That would put him out of Heidstra's line of sight on Bundy around the big curve near the ally north of Gorham.
The position of the blood drop near one of the bloody shoeprints on the cover of my book (you can see it on this site but not in the hardback because the printer took it out) is pretty close to where it was on Bundy. That's the one that Marcia Clark made sure we saw on television. It's the one she used over and over - coupled with O.J.'s cut finger and Brad Roberts' observation that the blood drops on Rockingham led into the gate - to argue the wisdom of Mark Fuhrman's bleeding killer theory. Many of the biggest disagreements we've had here over the Bundy blood drops have been over our interpretations of where we remember seeing them in very bad photos. Unfortunately, Marcia was interested only in the photo that seemed to prove that O.J. had to be the bleeding killer and the defense was interested only in confusion the question. What we got, therefore, was a little of both: Some people "see" all of the Bundy blood drops the way they saw Marcia's favorite photo of them. Others see a picture too confusing to make a good case one way or another.
Clarity is always better. The clearer, the better. --Jasper
