This is so confusing to me that I don't know which end is up. But could it be that the doors were actually closed that they are covering up. If the dog usually slept in the house, if the door was open, why would he not have bounded out when Nicole went out? How and when did the dog actually get out. I can't figure any of this out, but I agree that they had a reason to do that. wish I could deconfuse.
