The opposite of civility is, personally-targeted, belligerent behavior and persistent rudeness that produces a hostile air. Incivility may put posters on the defensive, may create closed-mindedness to multiple, alternative theories, and can contribute to preventing a productive board. A more serious consequence of incivility may be to make people so unhappy that they leave the smartfellows board, and what a shame that would be. I have felt that way at times, not just by what was said to me, but to others as well. I cannot imagine in the working environment that it is ok to be honest without being civil, although anything is possible. Yes, I have ran into some of the same type of people, but truthfully I choose to act the way I believe or I can choose to act their way. I still believe it is a choice. It is what it is but I do not wish to insult anyone, I wanted to bring this to your (all) attention so that I can choose to continue to be a part of this or not. I appreciated those who responded and told me too that they felt similar at first. That in a big way helped me to understand better. Typing lacks expression and maybe that is where the gap is, I do not know for sure, just trying to find out.
