Solitairea1 – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T._S._Eliot Thomas Stearns Eliot, OM (26 September 1888 – 4 January 1965), was a poet, dramatist, and literary critic. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1948. He wrote the poems The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, The Waste Land, The Hollow Men, Ash Wednesday, and Four Quartets; the plays Murder in the Cathedral and The Cocktail Party; and the essay "Tradition and the Individual Talent." Eliot was born in the United States, moved to the United Kingdom in 1914 (at age 25), and became a British subject in 1927 at the age of 39. …………. I’ve never been a T. S. Elliot fan, so most of this is either new to me or something I ignored in my high school English Literature class. All I remembered about him (consciously) was his name, the name of his poem THE WASTE LAND and the fact that he won a NOBEL PRIZE in Literature. Now, several things in relation to Mark Fuhrman’s first three books, four of his movie inspiration sources and his Murder in Greenwich movie, jump out at me. Not the least of those things is the fact that wasteland is a perfect description of the sections of Detroit ravished in the ’67 riot and the “urban renewal” projects that proceeded it. ………….The title of Fuhrman’s first three books begins with “Murder in…” ………….The four source movies are: ………… Laura (’44) with Vincent Price, Gene Tierney, Dana Andrews and Clifton Webb as Waldo Lydecker http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0037008/ Waldo, the talking bird in Twin Peaks was named after Webb’s charter in Laura. The IMDb gives this interesting Chicago Y map connection to Clifton Webb: “Ayn Rand wanted him to play suave villain Ellsworth TOOHEY in the 1949 adaptation of "The Fountainhead…" …………..All About Eve (’50) with Anne Baxter and George Saunders as ADDISON DeWitt (in MOONLIGHTING, Bruce Willis is David Addison. In The Rosary Murders with Donald Sutherland, A priest is murdered in a cathedral. Addison Powell is another murdered priest. In Three Days of the Condor Addison Powell’s CIA character is behind the unauthorized covert operation uncovered by Robert Redford’s character …………. The Sweet Smell of Success (’57) cast includes Barbara Nichols (Elizabeth Powell in the “Twenty Two” episode of The Twilight Zone) and Bert Lancaster. In the Murder in Greenwich COCKTAIL PARTY scene with Fuhrman and Hildy Southerlyn, we learn that the name of a cop moonlighting as a private security officer is Lancaster. ………….In Theatre of Blood, Vincent Price is a deranged Shakespearian actor in London who literally assassinates critics who assassinated his image. …………..A central figure in all four movies is an influential critic who committed image assassination against someone. Who would have thought you’d get all of this with T. S. Elliot? –Jasper
