Jackpot?

Jolana's observation about Eyes Wide Open's typos struck a responsive cord with me. They didn't look quite like the kind of typos I make or the kind I see others make when they dash off a message in a hurry to blow off steam. "that low-life nigger is dead and all of you should be tooblaming a commited cop for what a fucking coon got away with" looks more like something that an unimaginative fiction writer would invent for your basic menacing racist character.

How can you not see a stereotypical figure like a hooded, tattooed Klansman with a pot belly, a poor education, a lot of hate and a crude but concise and accurate way of articulating majority white opinion about O.J. and writers like me? Yet, how can that picture be true? It can't be….

Something about Eyes Wide Open's overly dramatic style and well-placed "errors" looked awfully familiar to me. His incorrect hyphenation of the word "lowlife," his correct spelling of the word "too" and his unnecessary use of the epithets "nigger" and "coon" also fit a familiar pattern. Whoever Eyes Wide Open is, his or her "lowlife message" has our boy Mark Fuhrman written all over it. Could we have hit the Jackpot? I think that's a distinct possibility.

Yes, I know I said, "Ignore him and he'll go away," but I may have dismissed Eyes too soon. When you fix the typos you may see what I mean about Fuhrman. I did it to make it easier to read so I could be sure that I got the intended message. This is what I came up with…

That lowlife nigger is dead. And all of you should be, too, blaming a committed cop for what a fucking coon got away with.

Clearly, this message is not intended for a "dead" man. It's for his like-minded survivors. I can see the subtle death threat as well as Charlie and Miss Marple did. But I can also see a surgically precise use of words and punctuation to get the threats across with "plausible deniability." Eyes Wide Open doesn't actually threaten anyone. He doesn't say that anyone should or will meet with a violent end unless they stop looking at Fuhrman as a murder suspect. He just refers to me by a racial epithet to say that I am dead and you should be, too, if you think the way I do about Fuhrman and O.J.

This is what I found especially interesting: Eyes Wide Open makes a guess about the cause of my absence, which happens to be extremely perceptive, requiring a long, detailed study of my behavior patterns and uncommon powers of deduction. That is to say, based upon a careful study of the available information about me and the subjects under discussion when I sudden "disappeared" without explanation, he had a better than even chance of being right. Imagine how intimidating his message would have been if he had been right.

Please don't say that it couldn't have been Mark Fuhrman because he is too smart to write "nigger" and "coon" in a post on the Iago Discussion Board. Any argument that one could formulate along those lines makes the opposite point. The argument itself tells you that it would have been a smart thing for him to do. How many times have you seen me lock horns with someone on this board about excluding Fuhrman as a criminal suspect because of something I said he did that would OBVIOUSLY be "stupid" or "unnecessary for him to do"?

If I'm wrong, the next post from Eyes Wide Open should make the error clear. I will be eagerly watching for that post. -Jasper
