There is something strange about this Russian Mafia stuff---and getting into the country via the State Dept/INS.
I realize the INS is a Mickey Mouse outfit who goes by the background checks many times that the State Dept does but it seems to me a very very poor job is being done here.
Perhaps it is partly because such large numbers are being allowed in and it is evident to all since 9-ll that they do not have the wherewithall, the finances, the personel, and in some cases (like letting the 4 Pakistanis off the boat with shore leave when NO Pakistanis--period--are supposed to set foot on shore without a visa) just plain stupidity.
Take the Crazy Russian that killed his family including the little boy less than a year ago and kept the cops on the run for weeks before he was located. THAT man had come here "legally' though he has such severe mental problems back in Russia that he should never been allowed to. And he recently hung himself in his cell.
Oddly, we have a Large number of Russian immigrants although we have known for years that when the USSR fell, the Russian Mafia took over their economy severely inhibiting a bounce back or a progressive movement to bring their country into the 20th century. I think they came here and set up business. The Russian Mob is deeply involved in professional sports and gambling as per several in depth reports and investigations I have read.
What are they doing at the State Dept and INS? WHat have they been doing for some years now? THis Is NOT a recent thing.
People are being allowed into the country on the basis of a visa pending--Mohammad Atta got back in the country the last time that way. THey didn't get their visas til AFTER they had actually Completed the flight training rather than before--that was what the visa was for--flight training in the US---yet they were allowed to do it BEFORE the visa was ok'd and the background check was complete. In other words, they were IN the country completing the training Prior to being given permission to do so--also by fault of the INS who let Atta in at the Miami airport based on a pending application.
The INS has some stupid people working for it but it is also a matter of being Overwhelmed by the sheer numbers and the sheer numbers of Tasks it is trying to perform --and can do NONE of them accurately or completely.
Far be it for me to suggest more BIG government, but it seems to me the INS needs to be separated into tasks. ONe section for legal immigration and one for illegal immigrations and perhaps more. They have divided loyalities for one thing--they can't be the Welcome Wagon Greeters (Welcome to our country! at the airports) and be the Illegals police. They can't ENCOURAGE visitors, students, workers and others while at the Same time DISCOURAGE the illegalities.
THe new head of the INS---Ziegler is a Libertarian with NO experience in immigration who is "for" open borders and open immigration and has no support of discouraging illegal immigration. He doesn't even "believe" in what he is doing in his job.
Before some of the poster go off on me and call me a racist (has happened before) or call me anti-immigration. Think again!
I am NOT against immigration. I am For immigration that is controlled, regulated, properly investigated with background checks, and LEGAL.
Our country is being STUPID to turn a blind eye to Illegal Immigration. Other "modern" countries don't. THey know better.
Believe me, Mexico doesn't do that. I talk via email to an American teacher who lives and works in Mexico. He said to get a visa, he had to pass a background check, have a certain amount of money in the bank, have a job, etc. And that every 6 months he has to REPASS this money in the bank and other checks on the list in order to stay. He has married a Mexican woman and has children but that does not exempt him from this regular checkup on his status.
OUR INS can't even FIND the people again. If they EVER knew where they were going in the first place.
Allita, I think THIS is how a bunch of the Russian Mafia, the Arab terrorists, the Mexican drug dealers and others got into this country. Sheer incompetence and Laxness trying to be "everything to everybody".
