You noted that," …Fuhrman according to his book wasn't sure how to get to Rockingham and asked Riske for directions even though his reason for coming along was that he had been there before and knew the way."
According to Fuhrman's preliminary trial hearing testimony (July 5) Riske wasn't in the equation. This is what he said and the full context in which he said it.
Q AT SOME POINT -- EXCUSE ME, STRIKE THAT. WERE YOU AWARE OF WHO ONE OF THE -- AT LEAST THE FEMALE VICTIM WAS AT THAT TIME?
A I WAS NOTIFIED THAT -- WHEN I WAS NOTIFIED AT MY RESIDENCE AT 1:05 THAT MORNING.
I WAS TOLD THAT ONE OF THE VICTIMS WAS THE EX-WIFE OF O.J. SIMPSON.
Q DID YOU RELAY THAT INFORMATION TO DETECTIVE VANNATTER?
A IT WAS RELAYED, YES.
Q AT SOME POINT DID YOU LEAVE THE LOCATION OF 875 SOUTH BUNDY?
A YES, WE DID.
Q WHY?
A AT THE DIRECTION OF DETECTIVE LANG AND VANNATTER, THEY ASKED DETECTIVE PHILLIPS AND MYSELF TO TAKE THEM TO 360 NORTH ROCKINGHAM, TO O.J. SIMPSON'S HOUSE, TO MAKE A NOTIFICATION AND TO GET HIM TO COME TO THE POLICE STATION AND TAKE CUSTODY OF HIS CHILDREN.
You will note two inconsistencies between Fuhrman's testimony here and what he says in his book.
1) In the pretrial testimony he says that he knew who the female victim was before he even left his house to meet Phillips at the station. In his book he makes a point of saying that he didn't know who the female victim was when he arrived on Bundy, only that it "might be the wife of O.J. Simpson." The interesting point here is that the second story makes more sense. Neither body had been identified at the time Phillips called Fuhrman. Nobody on the scene at that time knew what she looked like. Fuhrman was the first person on the scene who could have identified her. But he didn't do it, presumably because her face was covered by her hair and he had to wait until the photographer arrived before he could move the hair away from her face. He does not say when the identification was made or who made it.
In the pretrial testimony he says that Lange and Vannatter asked him AND Phillips to take them to O.J.'s house after Commander Bushey ordered them (all of them?) to make a death notification. He doesn't say why he and Phillips were asked to do that but the clear implication is that the RHD detectives were somehow advised that one or both of them knew where O.J. lived. In the criminal trial and in his book Fuhrman says that HE (Fuhrman) was asked because of his previous experience on a domestic dispute call at Rockingham in "85." He doesn't say how Bushey knew that the female victim was Nicole Simpson. He still doesn't say when the identification was made or who made it. -Jasper
