This is how Heidstra described the SUV (July 12 transcripts):
MR. COCHRAN: What color was the color?
MR. HEIDSTRA: Very light color, white or light.
MR. COCHRAN: Light or white?
MR. HEIDSTRA: It was white or something.
MR. COCHRAN: Did you see that car very clearly?
MR. HEIDSTRA: I could clearly see it.
MR. COCHRAN: How far away were you from the car?
MR. HEIDSTRA: I would say 50 yards at least.
MR. COCHRAN: 50 yards?
MR. HEIDSTRA: Yeah.
MR. COCHRAN: About 150 feet?
MR. HEIDSTRA: Yeah, yeah.
MR. COCHRAN: Could you see anybody, whether there was one, two, three people in that car?
MR. HEIDSTRA: No, nothing.
MR. COCHRAN: Why was that why couldn't you tell?
MR. HEIDSTRA: The distance I could not see.
MR. COCHRAN: You were too far away?
MR. HEIDSTRA: Oh, yeah.
MR. COCHRAN: Could you describe anything about the person or persons in that car at all?
MR. HEIDSTRA: No.
MR. COCHRAN: All right. But is it your testimony that that car came up Dorothy and then proceeded right to go south on Bundy?
MR. HEIDSTRA: Yeah, it went south on Bundy.
MR. COCHRAN: Now, did you--can you describe generally that car and what kind of a car it appeared to be, if you could?
MR. HEIDSTRA: It appeared to be a wagon car, Jeep like car.
MR. COCHRAN: A wagon or Jeep?
MR. HEIDSTRA: Yeah, something around there.
MR. COCHRAN: But you can't tell us what kind of wagon or Jeep that was?
MR. HEIDSTRA: No. Not really, no.
MR. COCHRAN: To you it appeared to be light in color?
MR. HEIDSTRA: Could be Blazer or Jeep Cherokee, something like that.
MR. COCHRAN: All right. But you don't know what it was; is that right?
MR. HEIDSTRA: No.
Fuhrman's 1980 Scout that he drove on the night of the murders is not as easy to document. That's because the E-TV! tapes and transcripts are not available and O.J.'s defense never followed up on Fuhrman's alibi which has him driving the Scout when he says he paid for gas and a soft drink with a credit card.
The last time you see the Scout mentioned in the transcripts is when Kathleen Bell talked about seeing it at a Redondo Beach bar in 1986. However, during Heidstra's testimony E-TV host Kathleen Sullivan talked with her guest attorney Charles Rosenberg about vehicles other than O.J. 's Bronco that matched Heidstra's description of the Jeep-like vehicle he saw. Sullivan mentioned the Scout. She mentioned witnesses who saw him driving the Scout earlier that day. Rosenberg sat there nodding his head all the time as if it was old news to him. They agreed that Fuhrman still had the vehicle in his possession but nobody was interested because they thought he had an alibi.
Fuhrman liked to talk about the old vehicles he drove. On his second interview with Dianne Sawyer he was photographed getting into his 1970 Ford pickup truck. He also mentions the pickup truck in his book (page 314) but never says a word about the Scout. --Jasper
